Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:RPP)
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading of article protection, upload protection, or create protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Skitash (talk) 02:28, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: People have re-ordered the ranking of Barbie versus The Super Mario Bros. Movie, adjusted the gross numbers for various movies so that they're inconsistent with all of:

    • The Numbers
    • Box Office Mojo
    • the mean of the two figures reported by those sources, and/or
    • the Wikipedia pages

and removed the Chinese movies from the list entirely.

Clearly this is vandalism. Vonvorx (talk) 07:30, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Semi-protection: High level of IP POINTy vandalism. The C of E God Save the King! (talk) 08:06, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 09:00, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Reason: Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. Vbbanaz05 (talk) 09:29, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of vandalism using outdated information. Every update made is revert back within 24-48 hours Psf3397 (talk) 10:33, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 11:09, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have tried that and Msport1005 keeps changing the page back to the outdated information. Can I request he be blocked from editing the page? Psf3397 (talk) 11:12, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You have not tried that. Talk:Virtuosi Racing is empty and so is my talk page. MSport1005 (talk) 11:47, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    • I can see you've started this pre-emptively after I wrote this on my edit summary. This could've been solved via discussion – but you only seem to want a content dispute. My case: User:Psf3397 appears to be a WP:SPA that focuses on moving Virtuosi Racing to Invicta Racing. For those not familiar: Virtuosi is a 12-year-old car racing team that operates in Formula 2 and British F4. Invicta, a watch company, bought an ownership stake in *the former structure* (important: not the full team) in December 2023. Since then, the F2 team has raced as Invicta Racing, with nothing else changing. The [website https://www.virtuosiracing.com/] has kept the Virtuosi name, the British F4 team has kept the Virtuosi name and the holding company has kept its original name of Norfolk Racing Ltd. Virtuosi founders Paul Devlin, Andy Roche and Declan Lohan remain in charge of all this – Invicta only holding partial ownership of the Formula 2 side of things. Therefore, this is not "outdated information" – the team is still called Virtuosi Racing and a page move is short-sighted at best. MSport1005 (talk) 11:41, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your information regarding Invicta Racing is outdated and incorrect. According to the official Invicta Racing website (https://invictaracing.com/), the team has fully transitioned to Invicta Racing and is no longer listed as competing in Formula 2 under Virtuosi Racing.
Additionally, the updates I contributed—detailing the 2024 season and including information about drivers for 2025—have not been reflected. It is important to note that the Virtuosi logo does not appear on Invicta Racing's cars, team kit, or website, further supporting this transition.
The fact that the company is registered under Norfolk Racing Ltd is not indicative of ownership or operations. Wikipedia is a platform for factual, verifiable information, not a forum for debate or speculation. Please ensure the article reflects the most accurate and up-to-date information available. Psf3397 (talk) 12:11, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You do realise the Virtuosi Racing article isn't dedicated to the F2 team, right? Not once have you acknowledged Virtuosi's British F4 operation, nor the fact Invicta has only bought into the F2 team. I've explained and referenced all this in the page, the edits and the comment above. Right now, websites exist for Virtuosi Racing (https://www.virtuosiracing.com/) and Invicta Racing (https://invictaracing.com/). Both are up-to-date. Moreover – you can verify the F2 team is still run by Paul Devlin, Andy Roche and Declan Lohan. MSport1005 (talk) 12:22, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have never disputed who runs the team. My edits did not change the fact that Paul Devlin, Andy Roche, and Declan Lohan are still managing the team, as confirmed by Companies House records. However, it is important to note that the Formula 4 team operates as a separate business entity, officially listed on Companies House as Norfolk Racing F4 Ltd.
My edits reflected this distinction by stating that the team competes under the Virtuosi name in F4. Historically, the team has raced under various names, including UN Virtuosi Racing, Russian Time Racing, and most recently, Virtuosi Racing. All these former team names redirect to the current Wikipedia page. Therefore, with the F2 team’s recent rebranding, it is appropriate and factual for the Wikipedia title to reflect the updated name regardless of what the F4 team is called. Psf3397 (talk) 12:49, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"Regardless"? No. Partial ownership stakes are very much subject to change.
This is an article on the 12-year-old team called Virtuosi Racing, which remains active. Russian Time has its own. If you want an independent article on Invicta Racing – you should open a WP:SPLITTING proposal, not overwrite Virtuosi's entire (and ongoing) history. MSport1005 (talk) 12:59, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That response is not reasonable. If you review the changes I made, you’ll see that I did not overwrite the entire history of Virtuosi Racing. Instead, I updated and continued the team’s history, as is standard practice for Wikipedia pages. Psf3397 (talk) 13:28, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Partial ownership stakes are subject to change. There are two reasonable approaches to this: continue updating Virtuosi Racing as normal (the F2 partnership with Invicta is already explained there) or a split.
Your changes involve an undiscussed move (WP:RMUM), a WP:COI (which you were warned of), a removal of the COI template, a removal of inline citations (which you were warned of), a subsequent unexplained reversion of this, and most recently labelling me as a vandal (which you have also been warned about). MSport1005 (talk) 13:52, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Extended (~month) edit-warring involving multiple IP addresses, potentially coordinated. I'm just coming across this now but see [1] --Richard Yin (talk) 11:39, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – Multiple IP editors and newly-registered COI/paid-for editors adding unsourced content in past couple of days. Needs to be semi-protected for a few days. 10mmsocket (talk) 12:27, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. El_C 13:57, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Edit war initiated by IP user BlameRuiner (talk) 12:46, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: Protection is too high and it was for sockpuppetry in 2018. It's nearly 2025 now so if it needs protecting just do pending changes or semi-protection but unprotection would be better I think. 147.10.234.99 (talk) 23:19, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: There is no criticism of this actress on the page. It is one-sided as well as sexist to the extreme, favouring women over men. 196.32.238.201 (talk) 04:22, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not unprotected – Please use an edit request to request specific changes to be made to the protected page. Talk:Brie Larson is not protected. Favonian (talk) 09:44, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Very temporary unprotection of this redirect, so as a non-admin importer I can history-merge the 2001/2002 edits there in to userspace, where they arguably belong much better. I created a redirect at User:Jimbo Wales/old2 before running in to this problem. I'll ping the protecting admin when I'm done. Or indefinite extended confirm protection would arguably work here; that option certainly didn't exist when the protection was implemented in 2008. Graham87 (talk) 10:15, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
