Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:RFP)
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Reason: High level Ip vandalism and many unsourced edits. Sush150 (talk) 16:23, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Ymblanter (talk) 21:16, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – IP editors repeatedly adding unsourced names of competitors to articles. Show broadcasts in about a week so the list will be known by then, but it's pure guesswork and speculation without any sources supporting. Ravensfire (talk) 17:09, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary extended confirmed protection: Persistent vandalism – User:Mosalman786 (semi-confirmed user) has been adding spam links to external sites. Look like an account used only for link-spamming. Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 17:31, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Now there's an IP keeps changing the number of matches against the given source... Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 05:00, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protected Ymblanter (talk) 21:24, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP hopper keeps edit warring for no reason. An increase in protection seems necessary to avoid any further disruption. CycloneYoris talk! 22:35, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 18:15, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry. Untamed1910 (talk) 20:03, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – A lot of the edits over the last few weeks are major vandalism. I think a longer period of protection is appropriate here. thanks. Aszx5000 (talk) 20:07, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. @Aszx5000: Indefinite protection would be premature, please see WP:PREEMPTIVE. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 21:01, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: ARBCOM protection needed. Several Arbcom reversions have already occurred due to non-EC editors editing a page with a topic they are not allowed to. See the page history for all the reversions and non-EC editors. The Weather Event Writer (Talk Page) 20:17, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent IP vandalism, editing the words of a cited tweet to be inaccurate. Previously protected for one week, and once the protection expired the user got back at it again. ~Darth StabroTalk/Contribs 20:21, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite move protection: Page title dispute/move warring – The event is correctly ongoing. Bangladesh anti-Hindu violence: Revision history - major contributors of the article are IP editors. 😬CsmLrner 20:59, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Already protected by administrator TParis., I do not see any need for the move protection at this point. Ymblanter (talk) 21:09, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: A month or so ago we had a problem where Allan Lichtman told his followers to go edit his pages to remove critical material. He has continued to agitate about Wikipedia and his followers have been reverting the pages in contravention to the talk pages again though I do not know if he said anything about it in the last week. I did my best to remove vandalism or content editing against the talk page consensus and redirect them there, where the issues were resolved months ago. I do not think the pages need full protection, but blocking unregistered users may help, as that seems to be the root of the problem on all "sides" (both critics and support). This is for both his main page and the The Keys to the White House page. As far as I can tell I got it back to where it was before someone started editing everything again but I will check. One of the editors has a user name matching the name of his wife. Caraturane (talk) 21:12, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize I flipped the pages, the edits are occurring on The Keys to the White House page today, but semi-protecting both is probably most practical given the apparent conflict of interest edits. Caraturane (talk) 21:19, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi for 48 hours due to instability and edit warring. ~ Pbritti (talk) 21:26, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Continued targeting by IPs and SPAs (assuming it's all one person) adding serious and oversightable BLP violations. Your Friendly Neighborhood Sociologist ⚧ Ⓐ (talk) 21:28, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Frequent disruptive edits from IP editors and single-purpose accounts that are possibly connected to the subject of the article Helioz9 (talk) 21:52, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

shhhmedo https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shhhmedo there are many people in this world who would try to make inappropriate thing for this 16 year old which can put him in jail for something he did not do, I would love to get protection otherwise this guy could go in trouble

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Unprotection: Disruptive edits, and all edits in general actually, are extremely sparse. The 2 most recent disruptive edit were on 6 June and 15 May. Before then would be 29 Feb and 25 Jan. I think the sparse amount of vandalism allows unprotection. TheWikiToby (talk) 19:25, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Couldn't contact the protecting admin btw (@Samsara) since they've been inactive since 2021. TheWikiToby (talk) 19:28, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
