Sarah Patterson (born 1970) [a] is an English film actress. Patterson was raised in Camden Town by her father, David Llewelyn Hood Patterson, a General practitioner (GP) of welsh origin working for the National Health Service (NHS) and his spouse.[1] She attended South Hampstead High School, an independent school for girls in Swiss Cottage, London.
Patterson's acting debut at the age of 14 was accidental.[2] Planning to attend an audition to provide moral support to a friend, [3] she was noticed by director Neil Jordan and cast in the lead role as Rosaleen, [4]a Little Red Riding Hood counterpart, in gothic-horror film The Company of Wolves (1984).[5]
After the film's release, she returned to school completing her O-levels in 1986. Patterson then starred in another fairy tale-inspired movie in 1987, playing the titular heroine in Cannon Films' Snow White, which was shot on location in Israel.[6]
Nevertheless, neither of these pictures were commercial successes, the first overly art-house, the second a musical. After Snow White, Patterson secured a couple of movie offers, but none really impressed her enough to accept to continue acting and she decided to retire from the industry at the age of 17.
Patterson briefly reprised acting in two films since, both produced by Valiant Doll, her friend Lisa Gornick's independent film production company. The Valiant Doll film Do I Love You? marked her return to screen after an absence of over a decade,[7] and she later appeared in Tick Tock Lullaby, albeit, in a supporting role.[8][9] However, since 2007, there has been no sign of activity.

[edit]- ^ There is some doubt as to her birthdate: IMDb (the Internet Movie Database) states the year as 1972. But this would mean that Patterson was eleven, or else just turned twelve, when she made The Company of Wolves. The sleevenotes for The Company of Wolves Special Edition say she had just turned 13 when she auditioned for the film, which would give a more likely birth date of 1970.
